Huckleberry’s Mental Health Moustache.

We are less than two months away from 2025, which is terrifying. It’s Movember. Let's talk about mental health and the like. By the way, welcome to Monday.

Before writing today’s blog, I went to the bathroom and put some beard oil on my face and moustache. That’s right. I have a moustache. I am participating in Movember again this year. I always enjoy it. As someone who rocks a beard most of the time, I appreciate the initial shock people feel when they see my chin for the first time. I am just as relieved as they are shocked, being reassured it’s still there. It is fun, and I take pride in its message. Mental health is critical to me. I haven’t been diagnosed with any mental illnesses, but I know people who have. When I was doing my Masters, I started experiencing panic/anxiety attacks for the first time. They are not fun. I am happy to say they are now few and far between these days.

November is a tough month. It’s that lull between Halloween and Christmas. The days feel shorter, and it’s cold all the time. While I enjoy snuggling up on chilly nights and going for walks in nature this time of year, I find it challenging to stay motivated. As the years go on, I have learnt more ways to help combat this gloomy time of year. Embracing the cold and going for walks works well for me. Another upside is utilising the dark evening to stay in and have some alone time. It’s a fine line, I know. Being a hermit, this time of year certainly isn’t the best way to combat the November blues. But staying in and enjoying some light entertainment one night and going to a social event another is a great way to balance your time. That’s what I will be trying to do as much as possible.

Another thing I want to do is raise some money for Movember. Here is a link to my Movember fundraising page. I would appreciate it if you threw me a quid or two, but none of that money goes to me. Hopefully, it will help get the word out on mental health. I appreciate any help you can provide.

On a different note, Fred and I will see IDLES tomorrow night. They are a band that advocates for mental health, and I am sure it will be pretty fitting. Thank you for reading and for your time.
