Describing a place.
Given the state of the weather at the moment, I won’t take up much of your time. I know this will be posted in the evening, but still. Welcome to Friday, by the way. I have some fiction I would like to share.
It is hot as balls today (I believe that is the scientific term). I am one of those people who doesn’t really consider the severity of the weather until it happens. Not a sceptic, but someone who ignores any forecast until after the fact. They did warn about this, though, didn’t they? It is very hot.
During my writers group meeting this week, we were tasked with writing about a place without outwardly describing what kind of place it is or any physical features. I guess, just the vibes. Here is what I wrote:
“A place by the sea that serves up fresh food daily. A place for the young and old holiday makers whenever they arrive in town. A place passed down from generation to generation, where the menu hasn’t changed dramatically in some time. But nobody ever complains. A place that feels like somebody's front room at times.”
Any guesses? Spoiler alert: I was describing The Taravie hotel in Courtown, Co. Wexford. That is a place my family frequents a lot, especially during the summer months. I would recommend. It has been on my mind a lot, as it is very well-suited to the warm weather we are having at the moment.
That’s enough from me. I hope you enjoy the rest of the fine weather that is forecast for the weekend. Unlike me, I hope you believe it before you see it. Thank you for reading and for your time.
