Huck goes to a gig for an hour
I have been on annual leave from work for a couple of weeks now. I have been having a lovely time. Like most people, when I take time off work, I insist that I don’t do anything too major during my time off and just chill. That lasted about two days. Welcome to Monday. Let me talk about a gig I went to last night for an hour.
I’ve got a friend. In fact, I have a few friends. I have mentioned them on this blog you are reading right now. I have one friend who plays in a band called Irate Yeats. They are great. I’m not just saying that because one of my good friends is in the band. They write good songs. I don’t recall giving this friend a nickname for the blog. I’ll think of one later.
He is a new dad, as is his bandmate. As you can imagine, priorities change when you bring life into this world. Or at least it should change. The band had made the conscious decision to focus on their own lives once they became fathers. They did just that. However, they were offered a gig in their hometown of Enniscorthy at the Presentation Arts Centre for their all-day music festival featuring local bands.
While they were excited to play the show, they were adamant that they would simply show up, play their set, and go home. Having known this, I decided to show up just as they took to the stage. It was funny showing up to a gig right as the band you are there to see starts. I am also a fan of seeing support bands when I go to other gigs. This time it just wasn’t meant to be.
They played their set, and I had a wonderful time. They write good songs, as I said. They went a little over their allotted time, but that’s just rock ‘n’ roll for you. They finished their set and simply packed up and went home. It was very rock ‘n’ roll to me. I like the idea of a get-in-and-get-out kind of deal. Just show up, do your thing, and bounce. A band I am buzzing about at the moment, PRESIDENT, (I may write more about them in future) had that with their debut gig at Download Festival this year. The masked lead singer simply walked to the stage and was immediately driven away when they finished their set.
So, I was at a rock show for about an hour and a half. It was the perfect way to spend a part of my evening. Go to local shows. Go support local bands. They appreciate it. That’s all from me. Thank you for reading and thank you for your time.
