A poem about public transport
Hello and welcome to Friday Fiction. The first Friday Fiction in some time. I’m going to keep this brief as I am rushing out the door to see the new Naked Gun film. I’ll have a review of that hopefully next Friday.
Until then, here’s a poem I shared with a friend recently. I wrote it a while back. It’s about a journey on the LUAS in Dublin that I took late one night coming home from a gig.
I saw an empty beer can under the seat across from me and a 40 minute journey ahead of me. So I wrote something.
Hazy IPA
There’s a tragic beauty
Right here
In the big smoke
A place where we’re in this together
But it’s still one for all
Those who mount the double deckers
Those who mount the railway tracks
Those who mount the trams too
I’m a tram mounter
If that’s not too sexy a term
There’s a tragic beauty here too
Depending on the time of day
I’ve seen it all
I’ve seen too much
I’ve seen spilt coffee
I’ve seen the vape smoke
I’ve seen the hazy IPAs
I’ve seen people worst for wear
I’ve seen love birds
And real birds
There’s a tragic beauty here
I haven’t feared for my life
I get to just sit back and relax
So drink your IPAs
Vape til your hearts content
There’s a tragic beauty here
And I can’t help wonder
Who’s going to throw out that empty can?
I love traveling around Dublin both day and night. The characters and stories that my little creative head sees are endless. That’s enough from me. Enjoy the bank holiday weekend. Thank you for reading and thank you for your time.
