It’s good to keep busy

They say it’s good to keep busy. I don’t know if I agree with that. We are almost two weeks into the new year, and trying to keep busy is becoming challenging for me. Welcome to Monday, by the way. Let me tell you what I have been up to so far this year.

Every year, I start with the intention to hit the ground running. I am sure most people are like that. Instead of sitting at home and doing nothing, I always find myself wanting to be a social butterfly, burn the midnight oil and some other cliché phrases. I find that comes at a price, though. So far this year, I have spent a lot of time going to events and shows. Last week, I went to events as part of the First Fortnight Festival in both Dublin and Wexford. For those not in the know, First Fortnight is a brilliant mental health festival that hosts all kinds of events across the country for the first couple of weeks of the year. While I had a great time at the events, I am on a comedown today, and it's not fun. I also went to see sketch comedy trio Foil, Arms & Hog. That was a lot of fun. It all kept me busy. It's good to keep busy, right?

Trying to keep up with all the fun has come at a price. Notably, sleep. I am knackered. I know exactly where it is all coming from. It’s a want to be out there and social instead of just sitting at home every evening watching TV. I realise now that that is more than okay from time to time. It's good to keep busy, but it's also good to take time to recalibrate. Today’s blog is a public promise and reminder to me that while it's good to keep busy, it's also okay to rest. I can do both. Today I choose to write this blog and rest. That will be it.

An interesting thing happened in Wexford at the aforementioned First Fortnight show. I will tell you more about that on Friday. Until then, thank you for reading and thank you for your time.
