Where did it go?
Happy Friday, everyone. I hope 2026 has been good to you so far. I have been trying my best to kick 2026 in the ass as early as possible, without risking burnout, of course. So far, so good. This is the first Friday blog of the year. It has been a while since I have done one of these. For the uninitiated, Fridays mean fiction around here. I will share some kind of original creative writing for you to read and hopefully enjoy. Simple enough, right?
Today I wanted to share a poem I wrote. Appropriately, it is a retrospective poem about last year. One thing I want to get better at this year (not a resolution) is spending more time with the people I care about and reconnecting with people I haven’t seen in a while. I got pretty good at it toward the end of last year, and I want to keep the momentum going. That’s what this poem is about, and it goes like this:
Where did it go?
Where did it go?
That year, I mean
I wanted it to be over for ages
I know that sounds obscene
But where did they go?
Those friends I knew so well
I sometimes feared I lost them
A feeling I know too well
But where did that thing go?
That thing that went missing all of a sudden
I guess we just move on
It will find its way home
It will be like it was never forgotten
I am becoming more and more grateful for the people in my life, and if you are reading this blog, then I am grateful for you, too. I know talking about expressing gratitude daily has been discussed everywhere ad nauseum, but as someone who has been doing it for a few years now in different journals/apps, I can say it is finally starting to positively influence my mindset. Better late than never.
That’s all I have for you today. Thank you for reading, and thank you for your time.
