Something to look forward to
Matthew McConaughey said it best. There are only a couple of things I need every day to stay sane. One of those for him and, as it turns out, for me is something to look forward to. That is what I want to talk about today. Welcome to Monday, by the way.
The exact quote is: “There are three things that I need each day. One, I need something to look up to; another, to look forward to; and another, someone to chase.” That is what I thought about when wanting to talk about this. Maybe it is because it’s Oscar season. It just came to mind. The second thing he talks about is something to look forward to. As I have become busier these days, I can understand what he means. When all is said and done, it is nice to have something to look forward to in the near future.
As someone who is enjoying the sweet but also fairly miserable life of being on the dole at the moment, it can be hard to find things to look forward to when money is tight. There was a time when I was going to shows and events once a week. That slowly fizzled out when money became an issue. Now, on the breadline again, I knew this year was going to be tough until I secured employment. I had a pretty reasonable solution that was both financially responsible and motivating: a gig a month.
That doesn’t sound bonkers, does it? One concert or show per month this year. I already had tickets for a few gigs. It has just been a matter of filling my calendar when shows pop up for the coming year. The first half of the year is looking pretty good. I will go to these gigs, and that will be that. It is something to look forward to every month, if you will.
I hope you are looking forward to something in the near future. For me, I am going to see the mighty Thumper this Wednesday. I will hopefully have a review of that gig next week. I hope to have a review of their new album published on Friday. That’s enough from me. Thank you for reading, and thank you as ever for your time.
