The Music Man

I love music. I listen to it most days. I won’t say every day because I don’t want to lie to you, dear reader. But maybe every day. That’s what I want to talk about today. The very broad topic of music, or at least my thoughts on it, by way of an acrostic at the end of this blog.

The reason music is on my mind a lot lately is because of this super-secret project I am working on in the background. FYI, the first instalment of that project may or may not be coming out next week. This project is music-oriented and has put music on the brain 24/7. Aside from this project, I am listening to a lot of new music these days. Some recent (and very different-sounding) highlights include Madra Salach, Show Me the Body, and Geese. Give them a listen, if you so choose.

I never really picked up an instrument that stuck when I was younger. I can do what maybe most Irish people my age can do. That being able to play a few bits on the tin whistle and a few bits on the piano. I never had an interest in picking up a guitar. I did, however, always find myself drawn to the drums. I had lessons when I was younger and was gifted my cousin's old, broken-up kit when I was maybe 10 years old. My parents eventually gifted me an electronic drum kit when the idea of having a full kit started to worry them. They never had any reason to be worried, as that kit was never really used. It was the height of my school days, and writing and the arts came into my life. That was it for the drums.

While the love of music and the drums never went away, it wasn’t until a few years ago that I found a way to maybe give this drums thing another go. I got a cajon (drum box) for Christmas a few years ago, and while it mostly gathers dust, I have played around with it more than I ever did with a full kit.

All this to say, I love music. I will always love music. I wrote an acrostic poem about music because, as I said, it's been on my mind a lot lately. It goes like this:

Music Man

Most days it's there

Unless it's not

Some days I make my own

In my own head sometimes

Carefully orchestrating

My teeth bounce to the beat

Altogether, my eyes widen

Now the song in my head is a hit.

If I were to recommend anything for the weekend, I would suggest you listen to some music. It's great. I like it a lot. Thank you for reading and for your time.
